Ashworth Thanks The DOD Worldwide Education Symposium...

Postby auryan » August 17th, 2009, 4:23 pm

Earlier this month, we experienced a great week at the DoD Worldwide Education Symposium and would like to thank all the amazing military folks that we had the pleasure of getting to know. For those of you who don’t know, the DoD Syposium is held every three years as an opportunity for military education professionals from all branches of Service to discuss future trends and challenges facing advanced education within the military community.

“Providing enlisted personnel, veterans and their families a quality, portable education is an essential part of Ashworth’s business,” said Gary M. Keisling, Ashworth College Chairman and CEO. “Education benefits pertaining to the new Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts will be hot topics during the Symposium. We make it a point to understand the importance of a degree program that fits the military lifestyle — one that is compatible with today’s education benefits as well as one that won’t be interrupted when soldiers deploy at a moment’s notice.”

We’re very proud of the team of dedicated military advisors we’ve established to provide one-on-one assistance to enlisted personnel and their families. These advisors continually remain current on relevant career trends, application processes, and tuition assistance options.

“Our current military students appreciate that we are able to help them work through the application and funding processes and anything else that comes along between enrollment and graduation,” said Melissa Maddox, Ashworth Military Education Manager.

“This year, we have several service members and military spouses walking in our graduation ceremony on August 15, 2009,” Maddox added. “Because we’ve been with them every step of the way, it’s exciting to be there when they receive their diploma.”

Once again, we’d like to thank the DOD for hosting such a first class event. We look forward to building on the new military relationships that began this week…

If it were not for the Portable Career Advancement Account program offered via GADOL via Ft. Benning I would not be here right now. As an army spouse my education has always been put to the back burner while I support my husband's career. In fact, I was one semester shy of my R.N. when I took off to Germany for change of duty station years ago. Since then, I have beat my head against the wall trying to find ways to get back in school but could not d/t duty, country, mission, time, money, and location etc. The most important thing I tell my children everyday is "school comes first". One day my little one looked at me and said "what about your school momma"....so from that moment I went on a hard pace to look for a school that would allow me to attend online and take it with me wherever I may go. I found Ashworth and found the perfect program. I attended a meeting at Ft. Benning and low and behold after getting my hopes up an Ashworth representative was not there like the numerous other college reps were. I was crushed again. However, I did the leg work and a lot of back and forth trips and I made Ashworth's name known at Ft. Benning with the CAA program via GADOL. Here I am folks. All it takes is dedication to get your dreams on the road. My husband has spread the word through his unit and platoon so other wives and wives of deployed or soon-to-be deployed soldiers know all about Ashworth and the CAA connection. So...I thank Ashworth for being available and allowing the opportunity to further education by working with our servicemembers and their families. To answer my little girl's question...my school is great!!!

TJ03,

Kudos to you for your determination to continue your education. We are so pleased that you have decided to pursue your educational goals with Ashworth. The MyCaa funding for military spouses is such a great benefit. Up to $6,000.00 in tuition assistance is more than enough to complete an Associate Degree (textbooks included) and even get started in one of our Bachelor Programs. Thank you for helping spread the word on this new program. As a military spouse you do so much for everyone else so its time to do something for yourself. Good luck with your studies. Please let us know how we can help.

Hi-

I am wondering what type of benefits are available to veteran military spouses? My husband was honorably discharged in 1997 because of a medical condition. He does receive a small pension via the VA but no one had ever said anything to us when he was released about educational benefits for military spouses just about his GI Bill. I already have plenty of federal loans to pay back but because my federal aid ran out I choose to transfer to Ashworth cuz of there low costs and monthly payments. when I saw this post I was wondering if there was anything for Veteran Spouses. I am almost done my 1st semster and will only have 2 1/2 left because all my transferred courses.

But, any information or help would be very much appreciated?

Jill

Hi Jill,

I'm former Active Duty Navy and currently the spouse of an Active Duty Sailor, and I use the DoD's MyCAA program to help pay my tuition at Ashworth.
The best way to see what benefits you would be eligible for would be to call the Military One Source Career and Education Consultants @ 1-800-342-9647. Once you take that step and if you're are eligible they will walk you through the process to get your benefits applied to your tuition, fees, etc.

Hope that helps :)
